What To Expect and How to Prepare for an AC Service Call

With summer just around the corner, you might be thinking “It’s finally that time of year again!”  Time for days at the pool or beach, for popsicles on the front porch, and sunny walks in the neighborhood. Warmer days mean rising temperatures and rising temperatures mean it’s time to switch on your AC! 

But is your AC in ship shape or it is time to call in the professionals?  If so, don’t sweat it!

Here are our tips and tricks for what to expect from your Mr. Holland’s Home AC service repair call and how to prepare so that you can feel confident during your time with us.



This might seem simple, but it’s important for you (and useful for our crew!) if you know where your AC or HVAC unit is located. You don’t need to know all the ins and outs of how your AC works (that’s our job) but it will help you, in the long run, to recognize telltale signs of when the unit is having issues. A helpful way to learn about your AC is to keep a copy of the manual, but if you’ve already lost yours don’t worry!  You can often find digital versions of the user manual through a quick internet search. Finally, troubleshooting the issue over the phone can often be a great first step (and a quick tutorial in getting to know your AC) before needing to call the professionals for an in-person or tune-up or service visit.



You may not know all the “technical speak” that Mr. Holland’s Home Services team members do but, at the end of the day, you are the expert on what’s going wrong with your unit. You’re the one who discovered the issue after all!  Be sure to relay:

  • When you realized there was a problem. How long has it been going on?
  • Whether your home is too hot or too cold and if you’ve noticed any changes in your energy bills.
  • Is your system running or has it gone silent?
  • Are there any unusual smells or banging/squealing sounds coming from the unit?
  • Do you see any pooling water or excess moisture anywhere?
  • Do you believe an air conditioning repair might be under warranty? If so, where did you purchase the AC from?
