South Milwaukee was laid out in 1891 and grew into an industrial city around the Bucyrus-Erie works, and its housing reflects that history. A quarter of local homes were built before 1940, the median home dates to 1958, and the city has estimated that about 1,500 homes still have lead service lines. The city has offered low-interest loans and grants to help owners replace them. Mr. Holland’s licensed plumbers help South Milwaukee homeowners with water line and repiping work, drain cleaning, sewer laterals, water heaters, sump pumps, and 24-hour emergency plumbing.
