Underground Drain Line Excavation & Repair in Milwaukee

A buried drain line may need to be excavated when part of the pipe has collapsed, shifted, developed a severe low spot, or deteriorated beyond an effective interior repair. Mr. Holland’s provides drain excavation services in Milwaukee and throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. Our team can locate the damaged area, determine how much of the line is affected, and explain what must be exposed to complete the repair or replacement.

Excavation isn’t the right response to every slow drain or sewer backup. We first evaluate the condition of the line and whether cleaning or another repair method can restore dependable flow. When digging is necessary, the project plan accounts for the pipe’s location and depth, nearby utilities, site access, and the area that will be disturbed. You’ll understand the recommended scope before excavation starts.

Signs You Might Need Drain Excavation

Symptoms alone can’t confirm that an underground pipe needs to be excavated. However, the following problems may justify a sewer camera inspection or further evaluation of the buried drain line.

  • Drain backs up after cleaning: A clog that quickly comes back may be forming around a damaged, misaligned, or collapsed section of pipe.
  • Several fixtures drain slowly: Trouble affecting toilets, tubs, sinks, and floor drains throughout the building often points to a restriction in the main line.
  • Wastewater enters the lowest drains: Sewage backing up through a basement drain, shower, or toilet indicates that wastewater can’t move normally through the system.
  • Yard constantly has wet areas: Soggy soil, unusually green patches, or wastewater odors above the buried line may indicate a leak underground.
  • Ground is sinking near the drain route: Soil can settle when water escaping from a damaged pipe washes away the material supporting the surface.
  • Tree roots enter the line: Root removal may reopen the pipe temporarily, but ongoing intrusion can signal cracked or separated sections that require direct repair.
  • Camera inspection reveals structural damage: A collapsed pipe, severe offset, deep belly, or heavily deteriorated section may not be repairable through cleaning alone.
  • Property has an older drain line with ongoing failure: Repeated problems in aging clay, cast-iron, or other deteriorated piping may make partial or complete replacement more practical.
