Heat Pump

Heat Pump Services in Southeast Wisconsin

A heat pump handles two jobs. It heats your home in cold weather and reverses to provide air conditioning in summer. Mr. Holland’s installs, replaces, repairs, and maintains heat pumps in Milwaukee and for homeowners throughout Southeast Wisconsin. Our HVAC team looks at the home’s heating load, ductwork, insulation, electrical setup, and existing HVAC equipment before making a recommendation. A cold-climate heat pump may work as the primary heating system, while other homes may benefit from a dual-fuel setup that pairs the heat pump with a furnace for the coldest days.

Ductless Mini-Splits

A ductless mini-split is a heat pump that sends conditioned air directly into one or more rooms without traditional ductwork. It can provide heating and cooling for an older home, addition, finished basement, attic, garage, or room that never stays comfortable. Mr. Holland’s installs and services single-zone and multi-zone mini-split systems.

HeatPump HowItWorks

How Does a Heat Pump Work?

A furnace creates heat by burning fuel or using electric resistance. A heat pump moves heat from one place to another with the help of refrigerant, coils, and a compressor. During winter, the outdoor unit collects heat from the outside air and transfers it into the home. Outdoor air still contains usable heat when the temperature falls below freezing. During summer, the system reverses direction. It removes heat and moisture from the indoor air and releases that heat outside, much like a central air conditioner.

Heat pumps are available in ducted and ductless configurations. A ducted system distributes air through the home’s existing vents, while a mini-split uses individual indoor units to heat and cool specific rooms or zones.

Frequently Asked Heat Pump Questions

Is a furnace or heat pump better for a Milwaukee home?

Both can work well, and the right choice depends on the property, existing equipment, available fuel, and efficiency goals. Some homeowners use a heat pump with a furnace or another backup heat source for dependable heating during the coldest Wisconsin weather.

A ducted heat pump makes sense when the home already has usable ductwork and needs whole-home heating and cooling. A mini-split works well in homes without ducts or in individual homes that need separate temperature control. We inspect the property and explain which setup fits the space.

Because a heat pump provides both heating and cooling, it should be checked before each major operating season. Regular service lets a technician inspect the coils, airflow, controls, electrical components, refrigerant system, and outdoor unit for problems that could affect performance.
